felicia vs morrigan flats by cakes felicia vs morrigan flats by cakes
So I kinda missed out on Udon/Capcom's Darkstalkers contest. Okay, not 'kinda.' I did miss out. I waited til the last minute to start, got exhausted from going to Wondercon for three days, and ended up falling asleep instead of finishing. Oops.
Now that the contest is over, I don't really have any motivation to finish this. So I thought I'd just upload the flats (instead of the half-rendered version). Someday I'll get around to finishing it.
I'm actually really happy with how the linework came out. I don't usually draw characters interacting, or a semi-action scene, or angles. So I'm glad I pushed myself a little bit. Still disappointed that I couldn't stay awake, but glad with what I could finish.

PS. In case anyone's wondering why Morrigan's hand is up in the air, she's supposed to be starting up some sort of fireball/energy blast (She has an energy blast, right? I'm familiar with the characters' looks, but I don't actually play the game. My bad.). And that 'fireball' is supposed to be the key light source.

That´s Perfect....You have much awareness of the human body, are very presise. How do you do it?.
Do you guides for real images (photographics references)?

this is amazing and looks like a pain in the butt to draw because of the angle and interacting characters. Did you use reference for the poses?

incredible work Rodin. I love how realistic your bodies are, stunning!
The pose you used for Morrigan reminds me of the one I used in my illustration.

nice one dude! I really like how you are able to captured these poses. Maybe one day could you make a tutorial on how you draw? Do you draw freehand or use shapes and lines(like i do)? I really like your style or drawing

Thanks. I love simplicity.
There was of lot of trial-and-error sketching to get the poses right. I used a mirror for the hands and Felicia's expression and foot.

See for me the flats are the biggest pain in the ass of the whole process but after that is where the fun begins. Rendering, yummy. Nice beautiful linework.

Thanks.
Yes, flats are a pain (especially if you draw a ton of tiny hair strands). And I do love rendering. But it can sometimes be as frustrating as flats when things aren't going how you planned.

True, when you don't have a plan for the rendering it takes days longer for me anyways.

Wow!!! I looks really great. I wish it could had been finished. I'm pretty sure this pic would been awesome.

If I were to critique it (even though I really don't like critiquing unfinished work), the only gripe I would have is Felicia's expression. It looks like she's in pain, though she is the one that's inflicting pain onto Morrigan. The pose to Morrigan's right arm and hand can also be a bit stronger, like havin' it placed onto Felicia's arm with her left hand.

Otherwise, it's great. Love the poses, the angle, and of course the characters. I'm pretty sure that your DS Tribute would dominate mines in a heartbeat. Kudos.

Thanks for the critique.
One thing my friend mentioned I should change is that I should show Felicia's eyes. Maybe that's part of what's giving her the pained expression. I'm pretty sure it's right for the angle, but if I bent the rules to show off some cleavage, I might as well bend the rules and show some eyeball.
As for Morrigan's arm position, I edited my initial comment to explain why it's up in the air. I wanted some dramatic lighting, and I figured a colored energy blast would give me that.
