Morning Glories 02 by cakes Morning Glories 02 by cakes
Since the September previews are out, and I've seen the cover floating around (pun slightly intended), I might as well post the cover to MORNING GLORIES #2 (without titles and text).

This cover was a challenge, but presented me the opportunity to try out different things. I'm pretty happy with the end product. Except for the teeth. I can't render teeth apparently.

This reminds me of a story where a classroom was flooding and the exit was barricaded because of a tornado. Only two survived, a boy and the teacher.

Anyway amazing artwork!

I don't like Morning Glories much, but this is one of my favorite covers for any comic book ever made. The scenario grabs your attention immediately.

Gotta say, I started reading this comic and found it interesting. I haven't read it from issue #1, but I am getting the volume 1 so I can start from the very beginning. It's sad to see comics like this going unnoticed. I know many people who say that they would jump at the opportunity to read a comic that isn't about Super Heroes, but it kinda sucks when I recommend this one, and the same people choose to not read it, and go straight for the foreign comics like Manga... nothing wrong with that, but it is very silly and closed minded for people to say that, that specific art form has more genres than we do, when we have just as many if not more so. Sorry I gotten a little carried away, but yeah, comics need to have more recognition than they currently have.

I think the teeth are just fine. You probably wouldn't need to render them more unless it was a much closer shot, IMO. I especially like the water effects here, but for some reason (and blame my monitor for this, since it happens on EVERY gallery I go to :P), the lower part of the image ends up heavily pixelated.

Wow! Awesome job on the waves, I love the fearful expressions, and you even got the wet see through fabric of their shirts! Incredible picture.
The only thing I think could be done better are the water droplets coming from their raised hands.

There's a Japanese artist who seems obsessed with musical instruments and flooded classrooms, often with the two overlapping. This reminds me of his work, except instead of a surreal sense of calm found in the subjects of his drawings, you can really feel the fear and the tension. WILL OUR HEROES ESCAPE A WATERY GRAVE? OR IS ISSUE THREE LOOKING TO BE ALL WASHED UP? FIND OUT NEXT MONTH, SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT CHANNEL!

man this came out REALLY cool, i mean not only is the action really good, but you really feel the depth and volume of the water.
I have to say im very sad you passed on such a great opportunity to show some awesome wet-shirtly nipplage, but i guess ur all above that
i fucking hate working with teeth, just too much detail and they look gross, not enough detail and they look plastic, personally i think u did a fine job, i didnt think twice about it until i read ur comment

I snuck a peek at this cover last month, and all I have to say is "Why do you have to be so good?"
Regardless, brilliant work Rodin.

Aww, thanks Scott. Did you get to see cover 3? It's one of my favorite things ever.
Also, I forgot to reply to one of your other comments: What is it that you're working on involving hair and possibly my favorite character? I need to see!

Of course, I always peak at the covers once they are up, haha. The color combo in the 3rd is kick ass, and I like how you hide a flower head in each cover. You should be proud!

I have to still clean it up, but I'll send you a note sometime soon with some stuff in it. You going to NYCC in the Fall?

Jeez, I'm horrible at correspondence.
I totally forgot about the whole ftp thing (I'm sure Jim & Kris loved that about me). Cover #4 is my new favorite now. And I got to check out your Forgetless trade cover. Very awesome! Really cool to see your take on Darla and that gang.

As for NYCC, it depends on where I am, money-wise. Not sure yet. Are you gonna be at SDCC?

Don't worry about it.
Thanks, I'm still ho-hum about it. I mean on the one hand I like the cover but now I wish I went with a cleaner line style - rather than the painted look. Ah well, 'You live and you learn'.

Nope, I won't be at SDCC this year. I was hoping to make it down but the place I was going to stay at fell through; next year I will though. I have all my NYCC stuff booked.

PS Cover #4 is slick! You keep knocking them out, Rodin.
